Speaking to This Morning's hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, Sam, 23, opened up in her first TV interview about her illness.

The TOWIE star spoke about when she started to feel ill in the Celebrity Big Brother house, revealing that symptoms hit her hardest during filming of the reality show:

"For three to four days I was fine and getting to know people until the symptoms hit really hard."

Holly asked what those symptoms were.

"They were really really bad stomach cramps, I couldn't hold food down and I had diarrhea, I didn't know what was happening to me. I couldn't hold food down for nearly a month.

"There were a couple of days in the house where I couldn't even get myself out of bed."

"I was shivering cold, when they told us they were extending, I thought to myself 'Can I do this?'"

She added that she has had the disease for almost a year, saying: "My doctor said that by the looks of it, I've had it for up to a year."

After revealing that she was diagnosed last Friday, Sam said that she is at last learning how to manage her condition - and that it involves giving herself a rest for six weeks.

"I'm on tablets at the moment, for the next three weeks I'm on shakes, which will give my bowels a rest for six weeks."

There is currently no cure for Crohn's disease, so the aim of treatment is to stop the inflammatory process, relieve symptoms (induce and maintain remission) and avoid surgery wherever possible.

However in some cases surgery may be needed to remove inflamed section of the intestine.

We're glad to hear that Sam has her illness under control at last and can focus on feeling better.
