Yes it was amazing but a lot of people felt that judge Nicole kinda took over a bit and stole winner Sam’s thunder.
Months later, Sam has finally admitted that’s not quite how the duet was supposed to go. Speaking to a UK newspaper, the 36-year-old said: “On that last note, she was supposed to do a bit, me do a bit and we do a bit together.
“I waiting for my bit and I was waiting and waiting and Nicole just held onto the note.”
While Sam can see where people coming from when they blasted Nicole for taking over, she insists it wasn’t the singer’s fault.
She said: “Everyone was saying she totally overpowered it and stole my thunder. I can hear what they’re saying but I’d just won so I didn’t care. I told her to let the Holy Spirit take over as we went on and I guess it did.”
The duet of And I Am Telling You is featured on Sam’s debut album The Power of Love, which is expected to reach No1 later today.
But, luckily for the former prison warden, the studio version shows off both of their vocals. “The vocals are shared equally on the album,” she said.
They might have a song together now, but Sam admitted she hasn’t heard from the former Pussycat Doll since.
She said: “I haven’t heard from her since but I’m glad she got a deal. We are the same age. I look like her mum.”
