As the X Factor auditions kicked off in Manchester, last year's winner Sam Bailey, who’s expecting a baby girl in October, says Cheryl Cole won't be bossed around by feisty former Spice Girl Melanie Brown.

Sam, 37, tells Closer at the launch of Miracle In Progress 4D HD scanning: "Mel B will definitely ruffle some feathers this year; she’s very opinionated and she says it how it is, but Cheryl will definitely be able to handle her. Mel’s had the most successful career out of the panel, so I think she’ll make a great judge.

"I'd love to be a judge. I definitely think I could do it, I’ve sung for 20 years and I’ve got a lot of advice to offer. I wouldn’t know all of the celebrity side of things, but it’s something I’d like to do in the future if it was offered to me.”

And although Sam's still says in regular contact with her former mentor Sharon Osbourne, she admits she would have loved to be in Cheryl’s category.

She adds: “I can relate to Cheryl a lot, she’s lived off a council estate and she’s a bit cocky like me. We would get on well.”

The singer, who already has two children, also revealed she was admitted to hospital after suffering a pregnancy scare last month.

She says: “I was at home in Leicester and I just started to bleed. I was terrified but luckily I was with my husband at the time. We called the midwife and she told me to go straight to hospital. I stayed in for a night so they could put my mind at rest, but everything was fine.”

And the Skyscraper songstress, who previously suffered a miscarriage, added that she was inundated with support from family and friends fan since her scare.

Sam adds: “My family have been fussing round me. My pal Michael Bolton called me straight away when he heard I’d been in hospital. A few days later I thought someone had mistakenly delivered flowers for a funeral to my house, but Michael had actually arranged for the biggest bouquet to be delivered to me, and promise we’d sing together soon. I was overwhelmed!”
