In a series of tweets last night, X Factor boss and fellow judge Simon Cowell announced the Geordie singer’s return.
He wrote: “It’s official. Cheryl is back. Be careful what you wish for! Most importantly she is a brilliant judge of talent.”
Cheryl, 30, also confirmed it by posting a picture of her and Simon on Instagram. The cute snap of the former Girls Aloud star with her hand jokingly around Simon’s neck, was captioned: “GUESS WHAT!!.. I’m baaaacccckkkk!!!! #iMayActuallyRingHisNeck #XFactor2014 #leggooo”
In an official press release about her return as judge, Cheryl said: “I’m very happy and excited to be returning to The X Factor. I’m inspired and ready to find new talent and potential pop stars. It’s going to be a fun series.”
Simon also gushed about her return – for which she is reportedly earning £1.5million – hinting that he hoped the series would be as successful as last time they worked together.
He said: “I am so happy that Cheryl has agreed to join The X Factor again. The last time we worked together in the UK was incredible and produced some really successful artists. Obviously the plan is to do the same… so it’s back to work!”
Cheryl originally judged the show from 2008 to 2010 and during that time she won twice with acts Alexandra Burke and Joe McElderry.
However, after signing up to judge the US version of the show in 2011 she was famously sacked just weeks into her role.
