Russell Brand cancels stand up shows: ‘My mum’s got breast cancer’

Comedian Russell Brand has cancelled his latest stand up shows, revealing that his mum is battling breast cancer.

Russell has cancelled the Glasgow leg of his current stand up show, Messiah Complex to spend time with his mother.

Russell took to twitter to apologise to fans, writing: ‘Sorry to eff you around with gigs. My mum ain't well. Tix will be honoured or refunded.’

The 38-year-old is very close to his mother and wrote highly of her in his 2 autobiographies.

Russell’s mother, Barbara, raised the controversial star as a single parent after she split from Russell’s father when he was just a baby.

Russell has often credited his mother for helping him overcome his drug addiction.

Barbara suffered from cancer of the uterus when Russell was just 8-years-old. She survived but was diagnosed with breast cancer only a year later.

Russell revealed on his video blog that his mum was suffering from breast cancer nearly 20 years after being diagnosed with the disease before.

The actor divorced singer Katy Perry in 2012 after being married for just over a year.

He is now reportedly dating socialite Jemima Khan and has reinvented himself as a political activist, appearing on an infamous Newsnight interview with Jeremy Paxman.
