The 48-year-old, best known for his work with 90s rock outfit the Stone Temple Pilots, was found dead on board the bus his band The Wildabouts were using for their latest tour.

It appears he died in his sleep.

A statement on his official Instagram page read: ‘Scott Weiland, best known as the lead singer for Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, passed away in his sleep while on a tour stop in Bloomington, Minnesota.’

Scott was found dead on Thursday

‘At this time we ask that the privacy of Scott’s family be respected.’

Weiland, who also starred in Velvet Revolver with members of Guns ’N’ Roses, was found dead just hours before he was meant to appear on stage.

The father of two was frequently plagued by drug problems however, and had several stints in rehab over the course of his life.

He is survived by his kids and wife Jamie Wachtel.
