R. Kelly has been released from jail after $161k child support payment was made by an anonymous source

The 52-year-old singer was jailed for owing $161,000 in child support and was put behind bars on Wednesday until he could clear his debt.

Although he was only prepared to settle $50,000 to $60,000 of his child support debt, an anonymous source paid off the entire sum, allowing him to walk free.

His arrest for child support debts comes after his recording contract was cancelled following the shocking six-part docu-series, Surviving R. Kelly. The series investigates the sexual misconduct allegations against him.

What is 'Mute R Kelly'? #MuteRKelly

According to the Mute R Kelly official website, "MuteRKelly is a nationwide, grassroots movement to end the career of R&B singer and [alleged] sexual abuser of young black women, R Kelly."

The website reads, "In July of 2017, the resurgence of new sexual abuse allegations against R. Kelly prompted Atlanta Arts Administrator, Oronike Odeleye to take action and start a petition to get R. Kelly’s music off of Atlanta airwaves.

"Odeleye’s petition caught the eye of Kenyette Barnes, a seasoned social justice activist who herself is a survivor of child pornography. The two met for coffee and have been sisters in this fight ever since.
