It’s no wonder that the following femmes have a few tips up their sleeves when it comes to staying fit and healthy. Indeed, performing on stage as a band often involves carrying out vigorous dance routines, and it’s preferable if you’re looking in shape as you do ’em.
If there’s one thing these ladies’ exercise and diet regimes highlight, it is that a good body requires dedication. Have a gander and see whether you can incorporate any of their suggestion in your fitness regime.
Sugababes’ Heidi Range and Amelle Berrabah: Biker babes
When we spoke to Heidi and Amelle of the Sugababes fame (Jade was unfortunately unwell), they were very open about what they did to stay in shape. Heidi said that she has to workout to stay in shape and admitted that she is “a bit addicted” to spinning classes. These involve instructors guiding participants through the phases of a workout.
The two Sugababes we chatted to also suggested that having something to work towards is another good way of keeping healthy – Amelle and Heidi are taking part in a 54 mile cycle ride in June! Bikes at the ready girls!
Girls Aloud’s Kimberly Walsh and Cheryl Cole: to follow a fad diet or not to follow a fad diet, that is the question
Curvy size 12 Kimberly Walsh has said that out of Girls Aloud, she has to “try the hardest to keep the weight off”. Speaking about certain fad diets, she admitted:
“I tried the Atkins diet religiously for three weeks. I lost 8lb, but as soon as I got fed up with it the weight came back on. So I tried the cereal diet, which is two bowls of cereal a day and then one proper meal in the evening. It worked, but the same thing happened.”
These days Kimberly diets the simple way, through exercise and healthy eating. She told a magazine: “If I’m keeping an eye on things I’ll have cereal for breakfast, a salad for lunch with chicken or tuna, and then at night something like fish and broccoli – no carbs.
“I also have a friend who trains me, otherwise I wouldn’t do it.”
Meanwhile, petite Cheryl Cole says she diets to feel good rather than to stay slim.
The 26-year-old Geordie said in an interview that she follows the Eat Right 4 Your Type diet, which is based around the individual's blood type. According to the diet’s guidelines, A-types should follow a mainly vegetarian meal plan while O-types should go for a high-protein, low-carbohydrate intake. Meanwhile, Blood type B people should eat a diet including meat and dairy. And AB types? Well, the diet says they can eat a combination of A and B diets.
As much as we love Chezza, be warned that diet experts say that cutting food groups out of your diet may not be the healthiest way to lose weight.
The Saturdays: tone away like The Saturdays
The Saturdays gave us some top head to toe toning tips.
Mollie King on arms: I work out using Kettel bells (heavy weights). They’re great for getting rid of bingo wings!
Una Healy on the tummy: I do 100 sit-ups a day and have a spray tan – that always makes you look slimmer!
**Vanessa White on the bum: **My trainer makes me do lots of lunges and squats. Our energetic dance routines also give my bum a good workout!
Frankie Sandford on legs: I do lunges and run on the treadmill – which I hate!
Rochelle Wiseman on staying in shape in general: I eat little and often as that speeds up your metabolism. I also drink lots of water to flush everything out.
Rachel Stevens: in trampoline heaven
We decided to include Rachel Stevens diet and workout secrets, even though she was never in a girl band. Once a member of early noughties band S Club 7, Rach's curvy bod has long been admired by the masses.
While Rach touted dancing as a “fun” way of working out, she revealed that ten minutes of trampolining in the morning is her latest way of staying in shape.
She said: “I do about 10 minutes in the morning before breakfast and apparently it’s the equivalent of doing an hour’s run.
“As soon as I heard how amazing it was in that little space of time that was it, I had to have one. I just do it in the front room _watching GMTV and it gets my metabolism going before I even have breakfast.”
She added: “It’s about being healthy and enjoying food, and exercise makes it easier to do that.”
