“I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said,” she began.

“It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that is no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job.

“The words I used that night definitely do not reflect who I am. I have nothing but respect for the police and I'm very sorry for my behaviour.”

The 37-year-old was reportedly arrested for resisting an officer’s orders in Atlanta, Georgia on Friday morning.

During her arrest, she is said to have shouted:

“Do you know my name?” before adding,

“You’re about to find out who I am!”

According to the arresting officer she then warned:

“You are going to be on national news.”

The Walk The Line star was jailed alongside husband-of-2-years Jim Toth, who was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.

42-year-old Toth was stopped by police officers, after they observed him driving erratically. The arresting officer reported that the Hollywood agent appeared ‘disheveled’ and smelled of alcohol.

While her husband was taking the sobriety test, Reese is said to have been warned to remain in her vehicle.

“I am a US citizen [and have the right] to stand on American ground!”

Reese's husband faces charges of driving under the influence, while Reese’s alleged violation is disorderly conduct (obstruction).

However the mother-of-three had different ideas, and after accusing the police man of being a fake officer, she hopped out of the car, announcing:

“I am a US citizen [and have the right] to stand on American ground!”

Reese’s stand did not last very long, with the officer reportedly grabbing the actress to calm her, resulting in an agitated Reese attempting to fight the impending arrest.

Toth’s DUI test showed him to have a blood alcohol level of .139 - well above the legal limit of 0.08, and his subsequent handcuffing only infuriated Reese further.

The couple was arrested and retained in prison to have their mug shots taken, before being released around 3:30am on Friday morning.

Toth faces charges of driving under the influence and not staying in his lane, while Reese’s alleged violation is disorderly conduct (obstruction).

Reese and her family, including her children 13-year-old Ava and Deacon, 9, with ex-husband Ryan Phillipe, and 7-month-old son Tennessee with husband Jim, are living in Atlanta while she films her current movie, A Good Lie.
