Rebekah Vardy has opened up about the sexual abuse she suffered as a young girl during her teenage years and twenties, encouraging other victims to come forward.

The model opened up about her past trauma in an emotional Instagram post which also saw her reveal that she had attempted suicide at her lowest point.

Rebekah, 35, posted a word image after being inspired to write about her past, which read: "Sometimes the bad things that happen in our lives put us directly on the path to the best things that will ever happen to us."

The brave mum-of-four then wrote alongside the image a lengthy post, which detailed her shocking past traumas.

She wrote: "In my teens & my 20’s I had years of hardship. Sexual abuse in my teens, a suicide attempt, awful relationships with nasty men who I stupidly thought would look after me.

"I was a victim of awful domestic abuse (physical & psychological), I suffered from PND (postnatal depression) & caught my partner at the time messaging other women for sex when I was in the depths of despair."

Poor Rebekah has never revealed that she attempted suicide before, so it will have taken a lot of courage for her to admit that.

She continued: "Somehow I found the strength to get out of the house and the relationship, I got help from my doctor & was able to stand on my own two feet.

"I struggled to make ends meet but I was independent and free from bad relationships for the first time in 16 difficult years and I was taking care of myself and my kids and loving it."

Rebekah then went on to praise her husband, footballer Jamie Vardy, for helping her overcome her past.

She added: "That’s when Jamie came into my life. When I wasn’t looking for anyone and I was learning who I really was, I met the only man other than my real Dad who finally showed me how kind and supportive a man could be.

"I am so grateful for our happy life and I truly believe that every awful thing I went through lead me on the path to the life that I love today 💗 ."

She ended the emotional post with words of encouragement to other victims of sexual abuse: "To anyone who is having a hard time for whatever reason, things do change, it will take time but it will get better 🙏🏻."

Well done to Rebekah for speaking out!

This comes after many Hollywood stars have spoken out against film producer Harvey Weinstein, who is alleged to have sexually assaulted many women over the past 20 or more years.
