She’s had one of the most tumultuous times of her life, but Rebekah Vardy put her embarrassing legal defeat behind her as she enjoyed a lavish holiday away with her husband Jamie and their children last month.
And insiders say the trip away left the 40-year-old mum-of-five feeling more loved-up than ever with Jamie, 35.
A source tells Closer, “It was just like a second honeymoon for Becky and Jamie. They’ve had a really difficult year, so this trip was exactly what they needed. Although the kids were with them, they still spent some quality time together on their own and felt like teenagers again.
“They feel closer than ever at the moment. After all they’ve been through, they’re relieved to be in a good place right now.”
In July, Becky lost a three-year libel case against fellow WAG Coleen Rooney, after she tried to sue the mum-of-four for publicly accusing her of selling “false” stories about the Rooneys to a national newspaper. The judge ruled that Coleen’s accusations were “substantially true” and that Rebekah “deliberately” deleted messages to cover her tracks.
Rebekah blasted the judge for getting it “wrong” and has furiously denied having anything to do with leaking the stories, which Coleen – dubbed “Wagatha Christie” for her detective skills – had planted on her private Instagram in an attempt to uncover who was betraying her.
After the ruling, Becky was forced to pay 90 per cent of Coleen’s legal costs as well as her own, taking her total legal bill to an eye-watering £3 million. Throughout the trial, Jamie was by his wife’s side, offering his support.
The source adds the two of them are relieved they can move forward and put the stress of the last few years behind them, saying, “Their holiday was a chance for them to draw a line under the past year. Jamie was incredibly supportive to Becky through the Wagatha trial, and was angry at the way she was portrayed, so it was really stressful for him as well. He’s just happy and relieved that it’s now over and that they can move on with their lives without all that tension.”
The trial gripped the nation and has been turned into documentaries and even a West End play. In a recent Discovery+ documentary called Vardy vs Rooney: The Wagatha Trial, Rebekah insisted she did not sell false stories about Coleen to a national newspaper. She said, “I had nothing to do with that story getting into The Sun.”
She also took part in a TV interview a week after the trial ended, where she again denied selling stories and recalled how the past two years have affected her mental health. Last week, Channel 4 released the trailer for new drama Vardy v Rooney: A Courtroom Drama.
Meanwhile, Coleen has secured a multimillion-pound deal with Disney to star in a three-part documentary based on the trial, which will give her an opportunity to show her side of the story, during which she has remained silent outside the witness box.
In recent weeks Rebekah has laid low and enjoyed her holiday – with fans quick to compliment her svelte bikini body, as she posted a mirror selfie of herself in a pink bikini.
And the source adds that Becky – who is mum to Megan, 17, Taylor, 11, Sophie, seven, Finlay, four, and Olivia, two – is feeling refreshed after her getaway and is gearing up for a comeback in 2023.
“Becky has taken a bit of time out to recharge and relax after everything, but she’s ready to bounce back now. Next year she has a lot of things she wants to achieve. Just because she lost the court case, doesn’t mean she plans to hide away forever and become a hermit.
“2023 is going to be a big year for her – she turns 40 and, despite everything that’s happened, she’s now feeling more comfortable in her skin than she has in ages thanks to upping her gym routine in recent weeks.
“There have also been more TV offers and she wouldn’t rule out another reality show – all things she’ll be looking at in the New Year.”
