She’s had a tough year, and Rebekah Vardy could be facing further upheaval as insiders say her husband Jamie Vardy may be gearing up to leave his club, Leicester City.
Rebekah was ordered to pay a whopping £1.5m towards Coleen Rooney’s legal costs, on top of her own, after losing the infamous Wagatha Christie court case, which played out over the summer.
And after 11 years at Leicester – where Jamie is paid £140k a week – sources say he is keen on a move which would give him a pay rise, even if that means playing abroad.
The source says, “Jamie is 35 now, so he is coming closer to the end of his career and wants to make one final transfer before he retires. It would be a lucrative move and potentially net Jamie a massive pay rise. Like all players, he needs to have one eye on the future to make sure he has enough cash in the bank for when he’s no longer playing.
"The likelihood is that a mega-deal would come from abroad, so Jamie’s been eyeing up the options. In terms of where he’d like to go, Jamie has never played abroad so he’s keen on the idea of playing overseas.”
It’s believed Jamie would attract interest from American clubs, as well from sides in China – who can pay massive wages. But insiders say mother-of-five Becky, 40, is unsure, and that Jamie would only accept a new offer with her blessing.
The source adds, “There’s no way Jamie would move abroad without Becky being on board with it and without his family coming with him. Becky’s not keen on the idea, but could be persuaded if it was somewhere like Spain or Portugal. She does like the idea of having a fresh start, and somewhere she could move on and put the hell of Wagatha behind her.
“Next year could be a really big year for Becky and Jamie, and one that may signal the start of an exciting new chapter in both their lives.”
