Break-ups are never exactly easy, but Rebecca Ferguson was dealt the ultimate blow in 2014 when she was dumped by her then-boyfriend when he discovered she was pregnant with his baby.
From the outside, it appeared like the former X Factor star coped remarkably well with the split and seemed to take to becoming a mum to Arabella, now 20 months old, effortlessly.
But behind the scenes, things weren’t as peachy they seemed.
The singer has now opened up about her devastation at being heartlessly dumped and admits it left her at an all-time low.
“I emotionally broke down,” she told The Mirror. “Being abandoned with a baby - I didn’t handle it well.
“While creating the album I built myself back up. It was therapy. I made something positive out of something terrible. I feel I’ve overcome a lot.
“We Scousers don’t need therapists, we just chat to anyone, people on the bus, giving them our life story.”
Not only did her cowardly ex ditch her when she needed him most, but he also came clean about the fact he was in a relationship with another woman. Needless to say, poor Rebecca has had a lot to deal with.
“My life’s been a rollercoaster,” she continued. “With a lot of artists there’s always that drama. Life’s never perfect, there’s always ups and downs. I take ownership for a lot of bad decisions. It was down to poor judgement of character. But I’m wiser now.”
Rebecca is dedicating her new album - aptly titled Superwoman - to those who have been through similar ordeals.
“It’s an album for mothers and single mothers,” she explained. “I’m really protective and proud of Arabella. I want her to grow up into a strong independent woman.”
The star, who is also mum to 12-year-old Illie-May and Karl, 10, from a previous relationship with Karl Dures, recently ditched her home roots of Liverpool for the chic city life of Paris.
Speaking about the big move, Rebecca joked, “I’ve embraced it – especially the wine, bread and cheese.
"Me and the kids are learning to speak French. They’ll go to school here. No one recognises me and it’s a retreat, a break from all the stress.”
Sounds pretty dreamy to us!
