The 45-year-old music mogul stands accused of using the weight as a weapon while at Los Angeles’ Acosta Athletic Training Complex, where he apparently tried to hit coach Sal Alosi with the kettle bell.
He apparently assaulted the football coach at UCLA, for whom his son Justin Combs, 21, plays.
Fellow coach at the University Jim Mora called the incident ‘unfortunate’ but commended his staff for the ‘level of professionalism in handling this situation.’
According to TMZ, an assistant had been yelling at Justin, who is a defensive full back on the team, and giving him a hard time.
Diddy, who had been watching from the sidelines, later confronted the coach in his office, which is when the altercation took place.
He was arrested on Monday on suspicion of assault by a deadly weapon, and later charged with three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, one count of making terrorist threats, and one count of battery.
The incident prompted ridicule from fellow rapper 50 Cent, who mocked Diddy for his actions.
‘Puffy is in a UCLA campus jail right now! S**t got real with the coach!
'We got to go get him!…yeah man, you know how s**t goes,’ he is heard saying in an Instagram video, which has since been deleted.
After several jibes at his rival, the only image he left on his Instagram relating to the incident was a photo of him with several kettle bells.
He captioned it: ‘I didn’t say nothing about puffy, I ain’t built like that. I be scared to death #EFFENVODKA #FRIGO #SMSAUDIO.’
However Diddy’s son was quick to jump to his father’s defence, writing on his Instagram page: ‘I thank God for having a father that’s always there for me…Love you pops!’
He also shared a photo of the pair.
