Good Morning Britain presenter Piers Morgan has apologised on Twitter for slamming Ariana Grande after she flew home following the Manchester attack

After the Manchester attack two weeks ago in which a bomb in the foyer of an Ariana Grande concert killed 23 people, the star of the show flew home to be with her family.

Ariana, who is only 23-years-old, was completely traumatised by the events at her own show, and flew straight back to Florida to be comforted by friends and family - as any normal person would.

But outspoken TV personality Piers Morgan verbally attacked the singer for leaving the country, slamming her for not immediately visiting those who were in hospital for their injuries sustained in the attack.

The 52-year-old responded to a tweet by Katy Perry, who had written: "God bless The Queen and her kind heart." after the Queen flew up to Manchester to visit injured children at Manchester's Children's Hospital.

Piers wrote: "Agreed. Might have been nice if @ArianaGrande had stayed to do the same."

Despite a huge social media backlash condemning his thoughtless comments, Piers continued: "If the Queen can visit the victims in hospital, so can the star they paid to see."

He also tweeted: "I expected her to stay, visit & comfort her wounded fans & relatives of those who died."

Ariana did fly back to the UK ahead of yesterday's One Love Manchester concert to visit children in the hospital.

And after last night's concert, which drew 15million viewers on BBC One, Piers took to Twitter to apologise for his previous remarks and even praise Ariana for her beautiful tribute concert.

Tweeting a still from the show in a particularly moving moment which saw Ariana comfort a young girl from a performing choir who had begun to cry, Piers wrote: "I misjudged you, @ArianaGrande & I apologise. You're an admirable young woman & this is a magnificent night. Respect.👍"

He also wrote: "I thought Ariana Grande was wrong to fly off after #ManchesterAttack. But tonight she's putting on a fabulous show. 👏#OneLoveManchester."

But the ex-newspaper editor couldn't help but have a dig, writing: "I'll say this too about @ArianaGrande - she has a cracking voice. By far the best vocal performance tonight..."
