*TV star Peter Andre tells Closer why he can't wait for baby No.4 and why he's still figuring out fatherhood
He may be a global TV and music star, but to Peter Andre, the most impressive thing about his life is wife Emily MacDonaugh, 27, who is carrying their second child. “Emily is superwoman!” he says. “She cooks, she can carry a baby and she just gets on with life as it was before. She’s carrying the greatest gift a man can ask for.”
Despite already having three children – Junior, 11, Princess, nine, and Amelia, two - the I’m A Celeb star admits that he still hasn’t got fatherhood completely figured out.
The 43-year-old says: “Finding the balance between work time and family life is hard. I obviously adore my kids but I love working too. Work has been crazy recently so just juggling the two is a power in itself. I’m lucky that I can sometimes combine it – like when I took Junior and Princess to Orlando recently after I became an ambassador for Universal Studios – but when I can’t, it can get tricky.”
Something he’s proud of, though, is his ability to still be a fun parent, while keeping his kids in check. “The kids recently did a vote at school and I got voted Strictest Dad. I guess I am pretty strict – we have no phones at the table and family time is family time. But we have a lot of fun too and I think there’s a good balance there.”
The Mysterious Girl singer also says that while he stars in reality shows and is open about his private life, he does sometimes worry about his kids. “They were in the reality show [the ITV2 Katie and Peter shows] when they were little,” he says. “I was okay with that and I’m still okay with certain things, but also I don’t agree to other things. Princess is going to be a nun though so it’s all good.”
At the moment, Pete is juggling a hectic lifestyle of work and family life, but his favourite part of the week is Saturday nights in with Emily watching Strictly Come Dancing, which Pete starred in in September 2015. “Our favourite thing to do after putting the kids to bed is to cuddle up on the sofa and watch TV. We’ll always have a bag of chocolate too!”
“I’m loving Strictly this year - I had been planning to go to the live shows and cheer on Janette Manrara and Melvin Odoom but they’re out! I guess now I will just go with her and we’ll watch it together.”
Pete is currently supporting the npower ‘Superpowers’ campaign to help find the nation’s wonderful and quirky everyday superpowers. While Pete claims his everyday superpower is "being able to do pushups with the kids sitting on my back and being able to multi-task", you can share your superpower by heading to one of the road shows in London, Birmingham, Manchester or Newcastle or submit online, all details at www.familysuperpowers.com.
