Peter Andre: ‘School hours should not be extended- family time is important’

Peter Andre has waded into the debate about longer school hours, telling fans that he feels hours should not be extended.

Teachers have been discussing the possibility of making school days longer in order to ‘boost students’ confidence’ as well as helping out parents with the cost of childcare, though critics of the proposed plans say that teachers should not be treated as child minders.

Peter wrote in his weekly magazine column: “The school my kids go to finishes at 5pm, so because they have a longer school day they have longer holidays, so I can’t complain.”

He continued: “If I had my way, I’d rather have them home for 3pm.

“I think if they’re going to extend school hours they need to extend the time they have off too, because family time is important.”

The 41-year-old definitely enjoys having the weekends with his young children, writing to his fans that he had spent a relaxing weekend with son Junior, 9, and daughter Princess, 7, as well as fiancée Emily MacDonagh and their 6-month-old baby daughter Amelia.

He wrote: “Time goes by so quickly when they’re home, but we try and pack in a lot of fun stuff… But come Monday though, it’s back to work and school.”
