Peter Andre has confirmed he appears in the controversial Channel 4 documentary Leaving Neverland

Eagle-eyed viewers spotted what looked like a young Pete on screen during an early scene in the first instalment on Wednesday night, and now he has confirmed to that it is him in the doc.

The clip was taken from a dance competition in Brisbane, Australia, in 1987, which was won by Wade Robson – one of the two accusers the documentary centres on.

Pete came second in the competition, but would have won if Wade hadn’t been awarded the top spot despite being too young to enter.

The Mysterious Girl confirmed to The Sun that is him pictured in the dance competition.

First prize was to dance on stage with the King of Pop the very next night, which a five-year-old Wade did – leading to years of horrific sexual abuse, it is alleged.

The documentary details the abuse in excruciating detail, but Peter has defended the star, referring to earlier trials where Jackson was acquitted of all charges.

“We have to rely on the justice system and we mustn't forget that he was acquitted of not just one, but all child molestation charges during his trial in 2005," he said, in his column for new! magazine.

“You can't just stop listening to an artist's music due to accusations alone.”

The documentary has divided the nation.

On Twitter, where the hashtag has been trending consistently for the past week, many people have been swayed by the claims.

“Wade is perfectly demonstrating the conflict and dissonance victims feel. Honest and brave. All those shaming them here are complicit to Jackson's abuse . Moronic #leavingneverland,” said one commenter.

But others are not convinced.

“Wade & James have spent 6 years litigating Jackson's Estate for $millions,” said another. “6years to get their stories straight, stories that were repeatedly inconsistent and contradictory in their lawsuits."

Closer online has contacted Peter's representatives for comment.
