The statement read: "It is with sadness that we have decided to separate.
"Our focus continues to be the happiness of our son... We ask the press and public to allow us privacy during this very difficult time."
The Hollywoods, who share 16-year-old son Josh, previously split in 2013 after it was revealed that Paul had been having an affair with his US Bake Off co-star, US TV chef Marcela Valladolid.

They were able to reunite and work things out, but it appears that they have not been able to carry on.
A source told The Sun that the damage caused by Paul's cheating had been irreparable: "The truth is they’ve worked really hard to salvage their relationship but just couldn’t recover from the damage that had been done.
"The more famous Paul has become, the more attention he has been getting, and that has put huge strain on the marriage.
"Sadly, this has been on the cards for some time. Now they’ve made it official."
This comes only a couple of weeks after photographs emerged of Paul sharing a kiss with Bake Off series seven winner, Candice Brown.
Candice, 32, who is recently engaged to partner Liam Macauley, was seen with Paul after the Pride of Britain Awards which took place on 30 October.
In the photos, Paul was seen holding the back of her head in what appeared to be a very intimate embrace.
However, Paul and Candice laughed off the rumours in a series of tweets - Candice wrote: "No kisses or hugs hello or goodbye from now on - handshakes or waves only!", to which Paul replied: "Incredible!"
Stacey Solomon also hit back at the claims, saying that she had witnessed the "peck".
