Paul Daniels, real name Newton Edward Daniels, has passed away after he was diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour.

He had recently returned from hospital to his Berkshire home in March, following his diagnosis, in order to spend his final days at home.

His son, Martin Daniels, said at the time: "He has said before, 'When it's your time it's your time' and that's how he is trying to face up to things."

Paul went public with his diagnosis in February, publishing a statement which read: "We can confirm that one of our greatest magicians and entertainers of all times, Paul Daniels, has sadly been diagnosed with an incurable brain tumour...

"On behalf of Paul, Debbie and their families, we thank you for your kind concerns and support at this sad time and ask that their privacy continues to be respected.

“There will be no further comments at this time."

Paul is best known for BBC's The Paul Daniels Magic Show, which ran for 15 years.

He married his on-stage assistant Debbie McGee in 1988, writing in his autobiography, Under No Illusion, he described their relationship as fun and joking.

He said: “I was writing and needed to concentrate, so I had a ‘Do Not Disturb’ sign on my back. Eventually I went to bed and Debbie was lying stark naked on the bed – eat your heart out fellas!

“She was wearing the sort of sleeping blindfold you get on long-haul flights. Printed on it was Do Not Disturb.

“But further down her body she had a sign that said Disturb!"

Paul is mourned by Debbie, as well as his three sons: Gary, Paul and Martin, from his previous marriage to Jacqueline Skipworth.

Our thoughts are with them and all of his close friends at this sad time.
