Outnumbered and Harry Potter actor David Ryall sadly passed away on Christmas Day

The character actor was a familiar face to millions of TV fans and cinema goers following a career which spanned several decades.

The respected performer died on Christmas Day and leaves behind three children, Charlotte, Imogen and Jonathan.

In the 1990s he became known for his stage work, starring in several Shakespeare productions.

His film and TV work includes starring roles in Inspector Morse and The Elephant Man.

David passed away on Christmas Day

More recently he played the character of Elphias Dodge in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows- Part 1.

He also played Frank- or ‘Granddad’- in BBC sitcom Outnumbered alongside Hugh Dennis.

Sherlock writer Mark Gatiss paid tribute to the star, writing on Twitter: “The great David Ryall left us on Christmas Day. A twinkling, brilliant, wonderful actor I was privileged to call a friend. RIP.”
