As outspoken songstress Taylor Swift collected her Best Female Video award for I Knew You were Trouble, she sniped: ‘I also want to thank the person that inspired this song, and he knows exactly who he is, because I got one of these!’

And now band mate Liam Payne has leapt to 19-year-old Styles’ defence.

Speaking about 23-year-old Taylor’s dig, he vented:

‘I just thought it was a bit not needed.

'I mean, you just won an award, it's like, concentrate on yourself.'

The 20-year-old hit-maker then agreed that the move was ‘lame’.

He also joked that he was planning to emulate Kanye West’s famous interruption of Taylor’s 2009 acceptance speech, laughing:

'Hashtag get over it... I was going to do a Kanye! "It's the best video of all time!’

Band mate Niall Horan joined in the fun, adding:

'I don't know, she just started writing songs about me...'

With Louis adding: 'She became obsessed with you, didn't she now?'

American We Are Never Getting Back Together star Taylor and British star Harry had two failed attempts at a romance, with the first go ending when he was pictured kissing a model last year, and the last effort ending 8 months ago.

But Harry appeared not the slightest bit ruffled by the drama surrounding him, simply insisting:

'I like a joke as much as the next guy, so it's all good.'
