Olivia Newton-John has announced that her breast cancer has returned and spread to her back

After postponing her tour earlier this month, Grease star Olivia Newton-John has announced the devastating reason why - her breast cancer has returned.

The 68-year-old star was suffering from severe back pain and tests have shown the cancer has spread to her back.

Olivia made the admission in a statement posted on her social media pages which also advised fans that she would be understandably postponing her tour throughout the US and Canada.

The statement, posted on her Facebook page, read: "Olivia Newton-John is reluctantly postponing her June U.S. and Canadian concert tour dates. The back pain that initially caused her to postpone the first half of her concert tour, has turned out to be breast cancer that has metastasised to the sacrum."

It added that Olivia would be using "natural wellness therapies" to heal herself as well as undergoing: "...A short course of photon radiation therapy and is confident she will be back later in the year, better than ever, to celebrate her shows."

Olivia herself then addressed her fans: "I decided on my direction of therapies after consultation with my doctors and natural therapists and the medical team at my Olivia Newton-John Cancer Wellness and Research Centre in Melbourne, Australia."

It also clarified that Olivia would not be having any interviews and that the rescheduled dates would be posted on her website in the next few weeks.

Olivia was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1992 at the age of 43, having a partial mastectomy, chemotherapy and breast reconstruction and beating the disease.

The shocking news comes after she announced there would be a Grease reunion to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the film.

Speaking at the Fame Awards at Hard Rock Live in Las Vegas in March, she said: "We are thinking up ways. Nothing to announce yet. Forty years anniversary of Grease, which I can't believe. Time goes so fast. It is so exciting."

Our thoughts are with Olivia and her family at this tough time. ❤️
