James Garner, who is best known for playing the older version of Ryan Gosling's character Noah in The Notebook, reportedly passed away in his home.
American news site TMZ.com revealed the sad news after obtaining the legendary actor's death certificate, which cites acute myocardial infarction (a heart attack) as the cause of death.

The site claimed an ambulance was dispatched to his address at 8pm on Saturday 19th July, but the Oscar-nominated actor was dead when they arrived.
James Garner had reportedly undergone a quintuple bypass heart surgery in 1988 and suffered a minor stroke in 2008.
The three-time Golden Globe winner starred in The Great Escape in 1963, Victor Victoria in 1982, Murphy's Romance in 1985, and Space Cowboys in 2000.

He later starred in hit US comedy show 8 Simple Rules, alongside Kaley Cuoco, and The Notebook.
Born in Oklahoma as the youngest of three, the legendary actor was also a soldier in the US army, where he was awarded two purple heart medals in Korea.

He is survived by his longtime wife Lois - whom he wed in 1956 - and their 56-year-old daughter Greta 'Gigi' Garner.
