The star has been looking noticeably slimmer and appeared gaunt in a recent Instagram photo.

In recent outings her chest bones have appeared to be protruding.

Sources close to the star are denying that the mother of two has an eating disorder after ‘relapsing.’

The source told Star magazine: ‘This is completely false, she is not anorexic.’

Nicole's chest bones have appeared visible as she displays a worryingly slight figure.

Despite denials that the glamorous celebrity offspring is struggling with an eating disorder, another source has claimed otherwise.

They claim that Nicole's husband, musician Joel Madden, has been concerned about his wife's eating habits.

They said: ‘Joel has always tried to keep tight tabs on her diet, but since he's gone so often, no one's ever really sure how much she's eating anymore.’

'He is extremely worried about her. He tells her that she needs to focus on her health for the sake of the children, because they need their mother.’

Nicole looked much healthier early last year.

The source continued: 'When Joel confronts her on how she needs to ingest more nutrients, she says the juices give her all she needs.’

Nicole fought back at eating disorder claims back in 2010 in an interview with an American magazine.

She said: ‘I felt it was a little unfair to say someone has an eating disorder when they don’t. ‘

'It’s extremely insulting and irresponsible. An eating disorder is serious and it’s a disease.’
