But Jools, 38, has recently revealed she’d like another child to delay the onset of ‘empty nest’ syndrome, despite her children not even being teenagers.
“As they get older it’s quite emotional”
The designer and model, who is married to ‘The Naked Chef’ Jamie Oliver, 38, is already mother to Poppy, 11, Daisy Boo, 10, Petal, four, and Buddy, two – but is already worried they’re growing up too fast.
“As they get older it’s quite emotional,” she admits. “It’s a big change because she [Poppy] is going to secondary school. I spent most of this week just crying.”
“I find it really hard, I’m really attached to the children and she’s the first one so the whole thing is a lot for me to take in but it is going to happen and empty nest will happen soon.”
She added: “I think ‘well he [Buddy] is only two and a half’ but then I see how quickly Poppy [growing up] has gone. Maybe I’ll have another one.”
And according to parenting experts, Jool’s fear of the empty nest is completely natural.
Susie Boone, of MadeforMums.com, said: “Some mums really do love the whole experience of having babies and bringing up children so much that they want to put off, for as long as possible, that big day when the house goes quiet.”
“One of the key times for deciding to have another baby is when your youngest child starts school and suddenly the day doesn’t involve playgroups, wiping runny noses and having plastic toys everywhere. And perhaps we don’t feel quite so needed.”
She added: “And then, sometimes if you have one ‘late’ baby, you might think, well they probably need a playmate and it’s time for another one.”
