He had been placed on life support after being discovered ‘barely breathing’ at his home on Thursday and his family had been warned that his condition was ‘rapidly deteriorating.’ They were said to be making funeral arrangements after being told he was hours from death.

Speaking on MSNBC, Bob also added, “It was a very peaceful passing and [his family] are with him as we speak. You know, we lost a great person in this world tonight.

'We don’t have an official cause of death yet, but it has to be from complications of Parkinson’s.”

Muhammad is survived by his fourth wife Lonnie, who he married in 1986, and his nine children.

His daughter Hana paid tribute to him on Instagram, writing, “Our father was a "Humble Mountain!" And now he has gone home to God. Pray for the peace of his beautiful soul and for the happiness of his further journey. God bless you daddy. YOU ARE THE LOVE OF MY LIFE!”

The family are now planning his funeral, which they have confirmed will be held in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.
