The popular comedian’s wife Sunetra Sastry was granted a divorce in just 65 seconds this week, on the grounds of her husband’s ‘unreasonable behaviour.’
Though further details were not given in the proceedings, 'unreasonable behaviour' can refer to any manner of things - and doesn't necessarily suggest the blame lies with them.
60-year-old Atkison married make-up artist Sunetra in 1990, after meeting her while they were both working for the BBC.
The couple went onto have two children together over their 25 year marriage, with Atkinson filing for divorce in February last year.
And although Sunetra has been ‘granted’ a divorce this week, it actually could be many months before this is finalised - and is often only done so after much financial wrangling.
Meanwhile Rowan, who has become one of the country’s most beloved comedic figures for his roles in Blackadder and Mr Bean, has embarked on a new relationship with a 32-year-old actress.
Louise Ford, who is half Atkinson’s age, has starred in Sky’s comedy series Chickens, as well as West End play Quartermaine’s Terms - where she first met the comedian.
