It’s happened a lot more than I’m making out Mummy. It’s a lot worse

She told Manchester Crown Court she believes her daughter was ‘molested and abused’ by the actor ‘on a regular basis.’

The woman said her daugher had been ‘very calm’ as she told her that she remembered ‘all the times he raped me’.

The girl’s mother explained: ‘She said, “Mummy, you don’t want to know. It’s happened a lot more than I’m making out Mummy. It’s a lot worse”.’

My life just exploded

The pair had been on a weekend away attending a motivational conference hosted by a woman who had herself been raped as a young child, when the girl made her claims the court was told.

The mother described how her ‘life exploded’ when her daughter told her she had been repeatedly raped by Le Vell.

‘I asked her what was the matter and she told me. She was very calm. My life just exploded and I just hugged and hugged her.

‘I was crying and crying and she was saying, “It’s all right, it’s fine, it’s fine. It’s finished now but it’s like evil comes out of him”.’

The night of the girl’s confession, the mother and daughter fell asleep in each other’s arms, and when they awoke the following morning the girl asked: ‘Am I safe now Mummy, am I safe?’

The girl’s also told the court Le Vell denied the allegations and said she must be ‘joking’ when she confronted him.

She said she approached the actor and said: ‘She’s made an accusation. You raped her when she was younger.’

She told the court: ‘Before I finished that sentence he said, “Oh you are joking! This is a joke! It’s a joke! You are having a laugh!”.’

Prosecutor Eleanor Laws asked her: ‘Did he ask what she said?’ The girl’s mother replied: ‘He never asked what she said.’

Asked by Miss Laws what she thought happened to her daughter, she replied: ‘I believe he had molested and abused her on a regular basis and there have been a number of rapes.’

She added that with the benefit of hindsight she could see her daughter had ‘completely changed’ from the age of six, when she began wetting the bed.

Testimony

He said I was safe and he was just getting rid of all the evil and all the bad that was inside me

Earlier, Le Vell’s alleged victim gave her evidence in court from behind a screen, sobbing as she told the court the actor raped her in her bed after covering her mouth with her favourite teddy bear.

She claimed she was first raped by Le Vell when she was just six years old and he would talk to her during the attacks.

‘He said I was safe and he was just getting rid of all the evil and all the bad that was inside me,’ she said.

‘To stop me speaking he put one of my favourite teddy bears over my mouth so I could still breathe but not say anything.’

The girl also told the jury that the 48-year-old actor always abused her in the early hours and was usually drunk. The court heard that he had a drink problem.

Defence lawyer Alisdair Williamson questioned the girl's story and motivations and accused her of lying, but the girl denied having a ‘vendetta’ against Le Vell.

Mr Williamson said the girl had returned from a motivational speech by a woman who had been raped at an early age ‘excited’ and told her family she was ‘part of a special group now’, which a relative had said was ‘weird’.

‘Is that what some of this is about? You heard this lady talking about how she was raped when she was very young and how she went on and became a model?’ he asked.

What he did to me was so wrong. I was so young

‘You want to become an actress or a dancer, is that right?’

The girl denied being excited by the woman's speech and said she no longer wanted to be an actor or a dancer.

The court heard that a case against Mr Le Vell had been dropped by the Crown Prosecution Service in 2011 and the girl had subsequently contacted the police with further allegations.

Breaking down in tears, she said the delay in reporting the offences was because she had ‘had a lot more flashbacks and I was very confused’.

‘What he did to me was so wrong. I was so young,’ she said.

Asked why she had made the allegations, the girl said: ‘because they are true’.

Charges

Le Vell, 48, who has played garage mechanic Kevin Webster in ITV soap Coronation Street for 30 years is on trial under his real name Michael Turner.

He denies 12 charges, including five of rape, three of indecent assault, two counts of sexual activity with a child and two of causing a child to engage in sexual activity.

The offences were allegedly committed over a period of nine years - between 2001 and 2010.

The case continues.
