Long before Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, we had husband-and-wife duo Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan as our friendly hosts on ITV’s This Morning.

And, earlier today, viewers were transported back in time when the original programme theme tune, music and Richard himself made a comeback!

Sitting on the This Morning sofa beside Ruth Langsford, original host Richard Madeley welcomed viewers back from the ad break and explained how it was a busy show, before current Friday host Ben Shephard stepped back in to move Richard along and back to his guest position on the sofa!

Following the cheeky start, Richard explained where his wife Judy Finnigan was. Richard said: “If she was here, she’d send her apologies - we’ve both had this cold - and the difference between a lot of men and women is with men, when we get all the catarrh we hoik it up, but women swallow it… so Judy swallows her phlegm!

“She was here and fully made up and everything but she just suddenly started to throw up so I’m afraid she’s about halfway home in the car. But she’ll be alright.”

Richard also spoke about This Morning’s earlier debate asking ‘Is it okay to kiss your children on the lips?’ and admitted: “I kiss Chloe on the lips, and Jack, my son, who will be 30 in May, kisses me on the lips.

“I think if one side of the relationship is growing uncomfortable with it, either the parent or the child - then you should stop.

“But I think if it’s instinctive and it’s part of the family history and tradition, then why not?

“To me, there are no rules on things like this, it’s what’s right for you and your family.”

He added: “We’re very touchy-feely as a family, so for us it’s normal.”

What do you think - when should parents stop kissing their children on the lips?
