As many fans of ITV’s This Morning have noticed, Denise Robertson has been absent from the show - presented by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield - for several weeks.

And now it has been confirmed that the 83-year-old has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.

The statement, which was shared on This Morning’s social feeds, read: “I'm sorry I've not been around for a couple of weeks, but a persistent health issue has turned into something quite a lot bigger.

“I’ve been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.”

She continued bravely: “It has come as a surprise to me and my family but we know many others have suffered and dealt with this condition and I don't plan to give up without a fight.

“My doctor is referring me for chemotherapy and hopefully that will start soon.

“I’d like to thank all the lovely viewers of This Morning who have been concerned about my health and I hope I'll be back on the sofa soon.”

Denise, who has worked on This Morning since 1988, has her family around her at this difficult time.

Our hearts go out to Dear Denise, and we wish her all the best with her treatment.
