Mischa Barton was thrown into fame at the age of 13 when she first starred in paranormal movie The Sixth Sense.

And now she's exclusively opened up to the MailOnline about how she avoided getting stuck in the child actor curse and thanked her fans for their support through her tough times.

Mischa, now 30, said that she disallowed herself to be led astray within the industry: "You just have to be really tough.

You really have to have your wits about you and stay with what you love to do. And you have to work with people you love to work with!".

Mischa became a household name after starring as a leading role in The O.C, which began in 2003 (Gosh, we feel old!!!).

But shortly after, she found herself struggling with the problems that fame came with, as in 2007 she was arrested for driving under the influence - and shortly after was placed on a 5150 psychiatric hold in 2009.

Mischa expressed how much she loves her fans and how they supported her through tougher times, saying "I do love my fans, I have some amazing fans, some very loyal ones".

When speaking about her "full-on breakdown" to People, she said "It was terrifying, straight out of Girl, Interrupted. Story of my life.

I was never suicial. I was just overworked and depressed. But one slip of the tongue in a heightened moment and you find yourself in that situation".

We're so pleased that Mischa managed to pull through her tough times!
