The performance featured Miley in a flesh-coloured bikini twerking against her duet partner.
Many feminists have criticised her stage routines and Sinead O'Connor wrote an open letter with her pleading the singer the refrain from being 'pimped out' by the industry.
Jennifer Lawrence also made comments this week about women in the entertainment industry, saying 'disgustingly, young sex sells even more.'
Miley commented about her raunchy stage persona, saying: ‘I never worry about what I do on stage making me look bad.’
Despite the media frenzy surrounding her new grown-up image, Miley reckons she leads a pretty normal life when she’s not performing: ‘I think people if they actually knew me would be surprised at how normal I am.’
Miley went on: ‘I'm definitely crazy but I'm normal. I feel like [I am] socially probably more acceptable than a lot of people in this industry because I've just always grown up around this and so I never have any kind of attitude.’
Miley grew up in the spotlight, starring in Disney’s Hannah Montana throughout her teens.
The controversial popstar seems to think that no publicity is bad publicity adding: ‘Every time you talk about me, you're bringing more awareness to me and my record.’
Miley justified her revealing outfit choices and wild behaviour, saying that the her music speaks for itself.
‘If you have good songs I think you can wear anything or do anything, just be able to back it up by what you're doing.’
