Miley Cyrus on end of relationship with Liam Hemsworth; ‘It was such a hard time, I needed to leave’

Pop sensation Miley Cyrus and her actor fiancee Liam Hemsworth called time on their engagement just a few weeks ago, but in a revealing new interview Miley has suggested that she wanted to leave the relationship several months before the split.

The former teen actress was speaking about new single, Drive, which she wrote back in February - saying the song is about her need to end the relationship but her inability to do so.

Speaking to Fashion Magazine, Miley, 20, said “I wrote Drive while I was working on Valentine’s Day - emotionally it was such a hard time.'

“[The song] is about needing to leave someone but not really wanting to completely cut yourself off from the relationship.

“It’s a time when you want to leave but you can’t. It’s also about moving on.”

Miley and Liam, 23, ended their relationship after numerous reports of arguments and unhappiness on both sides.

Liam was reported to have been 'mortified' by his wife-to-be's raunchy controversial VMA performance in which she grinded up against Robin Thicke in a nude PVC bikini.

Since the split, Hunger Games actor Liam has been pictured kissing Mexican acress Eliza Gonzalez. Miley, who was reported to be 'fuming' subsequently performed in Australia where she gave an emotional performance, crying as she sung on stage.

The couple got together after meeting on the set of The Last Song in 2009. They became engaged in June 2012 after Liam proposed at home.
