Michelle posed for the snap right after waking up and shared the picture through her Twitter account with the caption: ‘Mooorning! #nomakeupselfie #breastcancerawareness show your support text BEAT 70007 It's so easy! Do your bit. X.’
Soon enough Michelle faced a backlash against the selfie.
One follower tweeted her: ‘@michkeegan f**k off you’ve got eyebrows eyelashes and lips on.’
Another accused the actress of using the cause to promote herself.
They wrote: ‘Clearly wearing make up… using a good cause for self promotion #shocking #shallow.’
Michelle hit back at her critics, denying that there was any make-up involved in the #nomakeupselfie.
She wrote back: ‘Just for the record I actually wasn’t wearing make-up! Stop being so negative it’s for charity U silly boy (sic).’
She then pointed out how many ‘likes’ the photo had received.
‘I got 14,000 favourites with that pic, if everyone donated that means the charity for £42,000… did you donate! Probably not!’ she wrote, feistily.
The campaign has so far raised over £8 million for Cancer Research UK along with funds for other cancer awareness charities.
