Bravely, the mum of two decided to be pro-active about her diagnosis after being told she had the BRCA2 gene - which carries with it a drastically increased chance of getting breast and ovarian cancers.
So in 2012, the 35-year-old underwent a double mastectomy, followed just two years later by a full hysterectomy.
But it hasn’t been easy. And Michelle has frequently spoken out about her struggles since the surgeries - especially her hormonal ups and downs.
Speaking to ITV’s Lorraine, Michelle admitted she longs to ‘feel womanly’ once more, and says that appearing in the next series of Strictly Come Dancing would help her regain that feminine feeling once more.
’It’s been a rough ride the last few years and we’ve been through a lot’ Michelle told Lorraine.
‘I think it’s every girl’s dream to do a show that makes you feel really glamorous and special and the last few years have been really rough so it’d be really nice to feel womanly again and do something positive and learn a craft.’
Although no celebrities have been officially confirmed for the 2015 line-up, we’d love to see Michelle on the dance-floor!
