The 35-year-old mum of two revealed all to Lorraine Kelly, telling her about the life-changing surgery she underwent at the start of October.
Michelle opted to have her womb removed after discovering she carried the mutated BRA2 gene - giving her a 30% chance of developing ovarian cancer.
'It’s been a rough couple of years but weighing up the pros and cons for me, having the total hysterectomy was a better option than having just keyhole and ovarian removal,' Michelle said, before saying she felt lucky to have had the option to have the operation before contracting the disease.
'It is worst, it was hard, it hit us hard as a family,' Michelle admitted. 'The recovery was painful, I’m still in pain now I have to admit. It’s not been easy on the family, I’m very swollen still from the operation. I look a bit different underneath this dress. Yeah I can put makeup on and wear a smile but it’s been hard.'
She added that the past two years have been hard on her husband, Hugh Hanley, too.
'It’s been tough, it’s been a tough two years and he’s had to see me go in and out of hospital and I haven’t really been that person that he married when he married me, we didn’t know that this was going to happen. It’s been traumatic and there are guys out there who could have selfishly walked away but he’s just been amazing so I couldn’t have done it without him.'
In 2012, the former Liberty X star had a double mastectomy, as the BRA2 gave her an 80% chance of developing breast cancer.
