During the fairly awkward interview, Howard questioned the singer on whether or not she had an open relationship with husband Stephen Belafonte, her suicide attempt and why she wouldn’t be performing her new single on America’s Got Talent, on which she is a judge.
But the questions that got Mel, 38, irate were the ones about her sexuality.
Howard asked the former Spice Girl: “You lived with a woman for five years?” to which Mel replied: “I was in a relationship for five years.”
He then asked: “You had no p*nis for five years?”
Mel remained silent as Howard then asked her to confirm if it was true.
Mel didn’t speak again until she was asked whether she’d ever been attracted to any of the Spice Girls, to which she replied “always” and confessed to having kissed all four of her former band mates.
Towards the end of the end of the interview, Howard brought up Mel’s sexuality again, telling the ‘gay and lesbian community needed someone like her to come out’.
Mel then pulled her headphones off and walked out of the room.
Mel was also questioned about her relationship with Eddie Murphy, who is the father of her six-year-old daughter Angel.
Talking about the relationship, she said: “I don’t think I have much to say about him because I don’t think it’s appropriate because, at the end of the day, we’re got a beautiful daughter together and he’s a genius.”
She then seemed to confirm that Eddie is not involved in their daughter’s life, by laughing when Howard questioned her on the situation. He then replied: “You can’t even begin to tell me that’s a normal situation.”
