The former Spice Girl, 39, has been rumoured to become the latest judge for a while now, but the Daily Star reported today that an official announcement is to be made in the next few days.
A source told the newspaper: “Mel has been in talks to join the show for months. There have been a few hiccups along the way to do with money and other commitments, but it’s finally a done deal.
“Mel has signed up and is working out the logistics of where she will live and when she can fly in and out of the country.”
Current Britain’s Got Talent judge Alesha Dixon was rumoured to be battling it out with Mel for The X Factor job. However, Amanda Holden recently confirmed the former Mis Teeq singer had not been given the job.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Amanda, 43, said: “I know who the last judge is, Simon told me. But I can’t say who. Oh God, it’s definitely not Alesha. Let’s just say you won’t be shocked.”
And Alesha herself has also spoken out about what a good judge she thinks Mel would make.
She said: “Mel is feisty and will bring a bit of spice, no pun intended, to The X Factor. Cheryl is a proper girl’s girl and I’m sure they’ll be fine. I don’t think they will clash.”
Louis Walsh recently confirmed he would be returning for the 11th series of the talent show, joining Simon, 54, Cheryl, 30.
