Despite being a surprising pairing in fans’ eyes, Maisie Smith and Max George have gone from strength-to-strength since they became an item in September 2022 after meeting on Strictly Come Dancing, and now insiders say that Max wants to take the next step with Maisie.
They tell Closer, “They are happier than ever right now and have had the best summer together travelling. Friends fully expect them to take the next step and get engaged before too long. They are a great couple and, when they aren’t working, are pretty much inseparable.”
Although Max, 34, and Maisie, 22, originally met in 2020 when they both competed on the 18th series of Strictly, their romance didn’t begin to blossom until two years later when they took part in the Strictly Come Dancing tour around the UK.
Keeping their relationship a secret at first, in August 2022 the pair took a holiday to Crete and then went social media-official, adding each other’s names to their Instagram bios.
Despite a few raised eyebrows surrounding their 12-year age gap, they regularly share key moments from their relationship, including when Max asked Maisie to move in with him in February 2023.
Before he began dating Maisie, Max was in an on/off relationship with Stacey Giggs – the ex-wife of footballer Ryan Giggs – from 2018, even moving in with the singer and her two children in Manchester.
Prior to Stacey, Max dated actress Michelle Keegan for three years, becoming engaged in 2011 before splitting up the following year due to his struggles with alcoholism.
Now, having been with Maisie for a year, Max is reportedly keen to settle down for good.
A source says, “When they first became an item, a lot of people said Maisie would just be another notch on Max’s bedpost. But it’s gone the distance and Max has been open in telling people he’s never felt this way before about anyone else.”
