He might have just won the X Factor, but Matt Terry’s newfound celebrity hasn’t gone to his head as far as Christmas is concerned.
He told Closer that he can’t wait to have a low-key, family Christmas with his parents and siblings in Maidstone, Kent - but that he won’t be helping out in the kitchen!
“A normal Christmas is just me and my family and the dogs,” says Matt. “We take the dogs for a walk, have breakfast and then spend the day watching films together.
“Then we have Christmas dinner, play games and have a few drinks.”
Despite the fact that he worked as a waiter before getting his X Factor break, Matt is adamant that he won’t be helping in the kitchen.
“No, my mum and dad both cook together, and me and my brothers just kind of sit around the table with a knife and fork in our hands waiting!” he laughs.
Matt may have been beaten to the Christmas Number 1 spot by Clean Bandit, but his winner’s single - When Christmas Comes Around - was written by Ed Sheeran, making him only the seconde X Factor winner (after Shayne Ward) to release an original song.
As for Christmas presents, Matt’s understandably been a bit too busy to do much Christmas shopping for his family.
“I haven’t had time so they’ve all got coal!” he jokes. “But hopefully I’ll find a minute to get them something because they’ve supported me the whole way. It’ll be last-minute running around!”
We know that feeling, Matt, and we’re sure a lot of people are familiar with the mad dash to get shopping finished before the big day.
As for New Year, Matt’s more of a fan of a quiet night in with the family than a big blow-out.
“I’m normally in on New Year with my family but I think this year I might do a gig or something,” he told us.
As for what he wants in his stocking, he reckons winning the X Factor means his Christmas came early.
“I think my Christmas present has already been given to me,” he says. Yep, we agree his win definitely trumps a pair of novelty socks!
