Madonna has revealed she was raped in her teens, but didn’t report the attack because ‘it wasn’t worth it’.
The 56-year-old singer was 19 when she first moved to New York City from America’s Midwest.
She claimed she was ‘too trusting’ at the time, which ultimately led to her attack.
Speaking to Howard Stern on a US radio show, singer Madonna said: “The first year in New York was crazy. I was in shock, I didn’t know a soul. I was saying ‘hi’ to people on the street like a dork.”
Madonna said her ‘stupid friendliness’ led to her going into a stranger’s apartment.
She continued: “I needed money because I was going to a dance class and the door was locked and I needed money for the telephone. The pay phone.
“[This guy] gave it to me and then he said, ‘Let me walk you to the phone’.
“He was a very friendly guy. I trusted everybody… then he was like, ‘I live right across the street. You can make a phone call from my house.”
Once inside his home the man raped Madonna. Despite this she insisted there was no point telling the police because it was too ‘humiliating’.
She added: “You’ve already been violated. It’s just not worth it. It’s too much humiliation.”
