‘Superstar’ singer Jamelia has spoken out against her Twitter trolls, stating that the racial and sexual abuse she receives online left her feeling ‘upset’ ‘confused’ and ‘a little scared’.
"This week alone I've been called a n****r, a bitch, a sl*t, a sl*g, an idiot, a moron..."
Writing to her followers on the micro-blogging site, she said: "I woke up so happy this morning...only to come on Twitter and see someone telling me they want to slam me in my head...suffice to say...
"My mood changed, I got upset, I was confused and even felt a little scared. Someone I don't know hates me like that? Wants to attack me??
"This week alone I've been called a n**__r, a bitch, a sl_t, a sl_g, an idiot, a moron...& while of course I know I am none of these things..
"..it still f**king hurts. I don't agree this comes with the territory, I don't believe this is ok, and I certainly should not be allowing people I don't even to hurt me in this way."
However, the 34-year-old has refused to allow bullies to make an impact on her happy and healthy lifestyle, explaining that she is “not interested in anything that makes me feel bad”
She continued to say: “When I got trolled I became aware of myself being drawn into a negative headspace and the only way to deal with it was to raise some sort of awareness and maybe shock people into the impact that it has.”
Jamelia later thanked those offering their support and tweeted that she felt “overwhelmed’ by the “lovely comments” received.
Kind words came from both fans and celebrity friends, including fellow Loose Women star Andrea McLean.
