**She surprised Loose Women viewers yesterday with her latest cosmetic accessory – but Andrea McLean’s reason for getting braces is amazing. **

Debuting her new look on the show, the 46-year-old explained that as a teenager she refused to get braces because she was too embarrassed.

But after her son Fin, 14, was told he needed the dental work, presenter Andrea decided if he could do it, so could she.

She said: “I’ve had braces. I was supposed to have them when I was a teenager. I had acne, a perm, I was not going to add braces.

“My 14-year-old son just had them done, I was saying, ‘You’re so brave’. And I thought, ‘You’re such a hypocrite because you never did it’.”

So, in a show of support for Fin, Andrea had the braces fitted. She joked: “And we’re brace-face together!”

Although Andrea was flooded with nice messages about her braces, some Loose Women viewers initially thought she’d gone under the knife.

One user question: “What the hell has Andrea McLean done to her face?!! #LooseWomen [sic].”

And another added: “@andrea_mclean for a minute I thought you had spoilt your face with the dreaded botox… Good on you for the braces!! #loosewomen [sic].”

Andrea later shared a snap of her and Fin proudly showing off their braces, and wrote: “Thank you for all your kind comments about my braces today on @loosewomen Fin and I are now Brace Faces together! [sic].”
