"I felt so depressed at the time that I just wanted to waste away and disappear."
Despite landing a place in the biggest girl band on the planet right now, things haven't always been plain sailing for Little Mix
lady Jade Thirwall.
For the first time, Jade has bravely opened up about her struggles with anorexia as a teenager, leading her to be hospitalised.
Writing in Little Mix's new autobiographical book 'Our World', Jade reveals that she developed the eating disorder at age 13, after going through a tough time in her personal life.
In an extract of the book obtained by The Mirror, Jade wrote:
"My periods stopped and things were getting out of control but I don’t think I really cared about what was happening to me. I felt so depressed at the time that I just wanted to waste away and disappear.
"Anorexia is a self-destructive thing and you become stubborn, so when people are trying to tell you something you get it into your head that they’re against you and you’re not going to listen."
Revealing the true destructiveness of the illness, Jade added: "It took going to hospital to make me realise that it wasn’t a game, it was something really serious. They sat me down in the clinic and were quite tough at first, spelling it out: ‘You’re destroying your body and if you keep doing this you will die."
We wholeheartedly applaud Jade for being so open and honest about her struggles. A true role model to young girls everywhere.
Little Mix are currently storming the charts with their new single Shout Out To My Ex - a happy and sassy break up tune (full of thinly aimed digs at Perrie Edward's ex-boyfriend Zayn Malik) and the first single from their brand new album Glory Days.
