Ant McPartlin's wife Lisa has opened up about her husband's diagnosis with prescription drug and alcohol addiction
Ant McPartlin bravely announced he was checking himself into rehab and revealed his secret battle with prescription drug and alcohol addiction over the weekend.
In a statement released to The Sun, the 41-year-old TV presenter explained that he was publicly announcing his struggles in order to help others who may be going through the same thing, and inspire them to get help too.
The statement read: "The first step is to admit to yourself you need help."
"I feel like I have let a lot of people down and for that I am truly sorry.
"I want to thank my wife, family and closest friends for helping me through this really difficult time.
"I've spoken out because I think it's important that people ask for help if they're going through a rough time and get the proper treatment to help their recovery."
Ant's wife Lisa, 40, has now spoken out about her husband's diagnosis, thanking fans for their support.
Lisa, who has been married to Ant since 2006, tweeted: "Completely overwhelmed by all your love & support, it means so much. I'm relieved he's receiving the help he needs, we just need him better."
Sadly, a friend of Ant's told The Sun that the couple had been struggling to have a baby, which may have contributed to his substance abuse.
They said: "Lisa turned 40 recently and is desperate to have kids. Lately they've started wondering if it will really ever happen for them."
Ant's other TV half and best friend Dec followed suit, tweeting from the official Ant and Dec Twitter account: "Thank you for all the kind messages and well wishes for the big fella. He will be touched. Your support is, as ever, much appreciated. DD xx"
We're sending our best wishes to Ant at this difficult time. ❤️
