Lily released the video to her new single ‘Hard Out Here’ and was met with complaints when some viewers found the video too raunchy.

The mum of 2 has talked about the over sexualisation of women in the music industry before, but her new video openly criticizes the objectification of women by parodying music videos by Rihanna and Miley Cyrus.

Starting with a shot of Lily lying in an operating theatre, the video shows surgeons discussing how ‘someone let themselves get like this,’ with the singer firing back ‘I had two kids,’ therefore poking fun at critics that have blasted her weight.

The video shows Lily performing a routine with some scantily clad back up dancers, some of which are twerking, a move made famous by former child star Miley.

The video makes fun of hip hop artists and their objectification of women

The video openly pokes fun at rap videos, which are often accused of objectifying women. Lily sings ‘it’s hard out here for a b****,’ referencing the term many rappers use towards women.

Lily continues her feminist message with lyrics like: ‘Don’t need to shake my a**** for you because I’ve got a brain,’ further making her point and justifying the raunchy video with ‘If you can’t detect the sarcasm you’re misunderstood.’

The song conveys a strong feminist message and builds on comments that Lily has made in the past

The Ivor Novello award winning singer has made a return to her craft after taking time off to have a family, welcoming daughters Ethel Mary and Marnie Rose with husband Sam Cooper.
