The married mum-of-two, 29, told a UK newspaper: “I don’t want to be a smoky, cokey mum. It’s never as glamorous as it looks. It’s fun until 2am, when nobody gets anything out of it apart from the drug dealer.”
But while she doesn’t want to be a smoking parent, Lily admitted she does find the habit glamorous, adding: “I really do love smoking. I find it glamorous, I find it sexy, cool. It just kills you.”
Lily also opened up about her musical earnings, claiming that musicians probably get paid more for turning up to events than they do from making music.
And Lily, whose latest album Sheezus when straight in at number one on the iTunes chart today, insisted that, while the John Lewis ad helped to re launch her career, it didn’t make her much money.
She said: “Everyone assumes I made millions from the John Lewis ad. I probably made £8k.” And she added the only way she would make money out of the song would be if “some rich kid in Russia asked me to sing it at their birthday party. That’s how it works.”
The Hard Out Here singer admitted she hadn’t realised how bad the music industry had gotten while she’s been away, and said musicians probably get paid more for turning up to awards shows these days.
She said: “There are to two levels to it. There are the GQ Awards, but also the snobby launches of a new water at Claridge’s. Pointless stuff. And we turn up because we get paid to be there.”
When asked how much those events pay, Lily replied: “Depends. From £2.5k to £100k? Now that people don’t buy music we have to find other revenues. It’s not something I’ve really been offered. But I might.”
