Last Christmas,she spent the day with Liam Payne and their two-year-old son, Bear – later revealing how her ex was there “before she woke up” on 25 December. But this year, Liam, 26, seems ready to break with tradition as pals reveal he’s asked Cheryl, 36, if his 19-year-old girlfriend, Maya Henry, can join them.
Liam recently confirmed both he and his girlfriend would be joining his ex, saying, “I’m going to go down and see Bear and maybe cook a Christmas dinner. I’m at home with my girlfriend at the minute, but we’re going to go down [to Cheryl’s] and have some food and chill out.”
As Closer recently reported, Cheryl feared his relationship with the model was getting serious, and worried they could be planning a move to America and were even considering having a child together. Now, insiders say Cheryl feels it’s time for a fresh start and for her to move on with a new man.
A source reveals, “Liam is being as sensitive as possible, but he’s proposed the idea to Cheryl that he’d like to invite Maya to spend Christmas with them and Bear. He’s told Cheryl that he and Maya are the real deal and that he can’t imagine not spending Christmas with her. He hopes it will be a good chance for her and Cheryl to get friendly.
“Cheryl was a little surprised, even though in some ways she did see it coming. It was tricky at first to get her head around the idea, but once she’d got over that, it served as a bit of a wake-up call. It’s what she needed to hear to accept it’s probably time for them to make a fresh start, with Liam going his way and Cheryl going hers as she tries to make more time for meeting someone new.

The source says, “She’d like to get back into dating this year, and has been looking at elite and discreet dating agencies, as well as asking her celeb pals to set her up.”

At the start of the month, Cheryl wowed fans at the launch of the second series of The Greatest Dancer, looking incredible after teasing a reunion of Girls Aloud by posting a flashback photo of the band on Instagram. Insiders add that, behind the scenes, Cheryl is also planning to concentrate on her career after her rival and ex Girls Aloud bandmate Nadine Coyle won over fans on I’m A Celeb! and her former fellow X Factor judge Nicole Scherzinger reunited with the Pussycat Dolls.
The source adds, “Cheryl is aware that Nadine and Nicole have been hogging the limelight and she wants to come out on top. She sees next year as her chance to shine.”
