Lewis Hamilton appears to be hoping for a fresh start in 2018 after completely wiping his Instagram page.

The Formula One driver came under fire recently when he told his nephew not to wear a dress on Christmas Day in a video posted to the social media platform.

And his followers were left unimpressed with many calling him out on his actions, declaring them “sad”.

Lewis deleted the clip soon after he caused a commotion and issued an apology to those he’d upset.

However, many of his followers were unimpressed with his follow-up words, saying that he was “gender-shaming” and his comments were not simply “harmless banter”.

He has now gone as far to remove everything from his account, which has shocked some of his fans.

One Twitter follower declared: “All of the Instagram contest was deleted and most of the tweets since October have been deleted.”

Some people have spoken out in defence of Lewis, including famous singer Boy George, who posted online, after the sportsman’s original video was posted: “Lets all give @LewisHamilton a break now. Far worse is said every day by far worse people with far less style!

“Move. People make mistakes and that’s how they learn!”
